Reflow or reballing ?

Sometimes a laptop motherboard will develop a problem with the chipset. This chip cannot be removed with a heat gun or soldering iron. Under the chip are aroun 300 tiny balls. One of these balls or connections may break because of overheating and a reflow may be needed. A reflow means reflowing flux under the chipset with a hot gun and then placing the motherboard on a machine and firing infra red light at the chip to heat it up to around 200-240 degrees and then allowing it to cool and sit properly.
This may fix the chip. If not you may need to reball. This involves completly removing the chip cleaning the motherboard then replacing the balls under the chip in order to make the chip work properly. For any questions regarding reballing or reflows give us a call today.

A motherboard is a plastic board inside your laptop that connects all your devices. Devices are cd roms hard disks, memory chips and so on. The motherboard will sometimes stop working for a number of reasons.
